I find honeybees so fascinating that I was thrilled to begin this book The thrill dissolved uickly but I remained hopeful I don t like leaving books unfinished when I do it usually due to book ADD so much to read so little when I do it usually due to book ADD so much to read so little and I don t like iving books poor ratings This one was so poorly written that I couldn t bring myself to plod than a uarter of the way through its 300 pages of irrelevant fluff for the few particles of sensible information it containedThere were also WAY too many instances of bee autiful and other such wordplay that is cute or at least excusable the first ten times but uickly becomes obnoxious Similarly the chapters began with forced and overused honeybee metaphor and simile in which the author compares her own history as an itinerant hippie to sweet hive life I tried to skip a lot of that but it was still irksomeIt seems as if she did a lot of research for this book but it isn t well represented She weakly defended many of the supposed health benefits of eating honey by saying that honey can help you relax and relaxing can help your health when I would have preferred an intelligent review of the research The final straw for me was her recommendation of an almost vegan diet juxtaposed with her autobiographical odes to cheese ice cream chicken and the like I don t know why that annoyed me so much Even to a forgiving reader I would recommend searching for a different book on this topic rather than wasting time with "This One I Have " one I have with the lite journalism style of this book It s too repetitive by far and by repetitive I mean Copper Lake Secrets giving the same tiny bit of infor. In Good ConscienceI Love Puns good conscienceI love puns the first 20 times the un bee lievable bee puns were cute But these puns weren t thrown in to be cute They were a part of the core vocabulary and that s just a little off putting in a book trying to make its case for some pretty Serious Claims Something The Book Hasn T Done Effectively Hence claims Something the book hasn t done effectively hence score I realize that the scientific literature on honey is sparse but I was expecting way Beyond that and the thing most painful to me there was no organization The book hopped from one topic to another repeated itself a billion times threw in random recipes despite dedicating two chapters to food and included random autobiographical stories that had nothing to do with anythingI m inclined to blame the editor than the author here as this kind of stuff falls under their purview since this pun happy author can clearly write There are much better books on the subject It is a little to folksy for me To much about the writer not enough about the subjec. Cal Orey ç 1 SUMMARYMation three times on the same page in the same wordsI have trouble with an author who uses the term factoids about their own writing and yes I am aware of both definitions If you know absolutely nothing about honey maybe you can lean something here But it s too reminiscent of an infomercial for me Something you can lean something here But it s too reminiscent of an infomercial for me Something it maybe the author s presenting her fantasy childhood in paragraph 1 and then saying Oh heh heh that s not true heh heh I m just obsessed with bees maybe it is the way she presents her obsession as a credential made me doubt her reliability The style is annoying and the fact that the author has several titles to her credit all beginning The Healing Powers of makes me wonder who is behind
